  • I Hate My Car - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I will never buy another Volkswagen again. I cant wait to get rid of my lemon. It is one problem after another. Not just with the car, but with my Volkswagen dealership. Im tired of taking my car back to get the same things fixed over and over. Not to mention the time the mechanic at the dealership told me my car was fine and let me drive away with an overheating car. The problems never end. In my 1998 Beetle, it was the air conditioning, which broke three years in a row. There were many other things wrong with that year, but I decided to give VW another chance and got a 2000 model. Stupid me, this car is a mess. My independant mechanic told me he wanted to shoot my car, I feel the same :(

  • The Worst VW Ive EVER Owned!!! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

This car has been a nightmare. First the sunroof made a buzzing noise, then the cable on the gas door broke. A wheel bearing went bad at 12,000 miles and another wheel bearing went bad at less than 18,000 miles. The rear brakes were completely gone around 18,000 miles, I had to replace both the pads and rotors.(The rear brakes definitely should not have been bad, the front brakes were like brand new). Obviously VW put cheap brakes and wheel bearings on this car. Dont buy this car or you will probably regret it as much as I do. The dealership was absolutely horrible to deal with. Ive had less trouble with my used cars than I do with this one bought new.

it is ghetto , it looks and handles poorly and you would do better buying a civic, they r cheaper.

  • Too Bad - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

This was a fun car. But its low level of quality really stinks. Something was always broken. The bulbs for the headlight are impossible to change if the plastic mounting/locking device for the headlight assembly break (the dealer confirmed that was the case). 10,000 miles before the timing belt was due to be changed the tensioner broke destroying the engine. And because VW makes the engine mounting holes different for different models with the same engine you can not interchange them. This became a pricey repair ($7,000 before it was done). The airbag and a sensor both went bad. Several sensors went bad. It was a nightmare. I was very happy to get rid of it.

  • please read before buying beetle - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

i bought my 2000 new beetle in feb 2010 and i have put probably 3000 or more into it with repairs have seen it be towed away 4 times, left me stranded for all those times. i have done nothing but regret buying that car. yes its cute but thats it. i am honestly scared to drive it places in fear that it will leave me stranded again. its a piece of junk, and everything is expensive to fix and a pain to fix as well. i do not suggest anyone buys this car. i really wish they would stop making them to be honest. that breaks my heart to say because i always dreamed of owning a beetle and that dream has turned into a nightmare.

  • Terrible Wretch of a Car - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

This is a terrible car! The worst I have ever heard of! It breaks all of the time. It keeps on getting recalled. Also, every time a headlight goes out, I have to take it to a dealership and pay someone $80 per hour to have a mechanic install the new headlight, because you have to have a special tool that not even my regular mechanic has. It cost me $50 to have a $5 headlight installed!

  • A BIG lemon! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

My parents bought my bug for me when I turned 16. I was so excited when I got it! But soon I started to hate it! So many things have gone wrong such as I have had to get a new clutch, thermostat, headlight, taillights, window motors in both Windows, plastic parts in the car are always breaking and etc. Taking it to a VW dealership is crazy because they charged me almost $400 just to look at it not to mention that the parts are very costly too! Overall its a cheaply made car! I would not recommend this car to anyone else!

This car is my nightmare. I hate it so much. I have it since January and I already spent $3,000 fixing it! Im so tired of all that happened with it. And Im broke obviously. Do never ever ever buy a Volkswagen whatever model it is that has more than 4/5 years. Im from Portugal, and there I had a Renault twingo, you probably dont know what it is, but its way cheaper and way better than this thing! And my car was from 1994! Shame on you Volkswagen!

  • ENGINE sucks - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Nothing but problems since day 1...you cant have the sunroof open without cracking the windows because it creates this really annoying wierd noise. It eats oil like no other...had the engine replaced at 78K miles...Thank God for extended warranties because of all the crap thats gone wrong with it - O2 sensor, MAF sensor, drive belt, airbags, computer chips, headlamps ($65 each), wiper blades ($25 each), water pump, thermostat, coolant housing. My recommendation - DONT BUY....well thats unless youre thinking of buying mine.

Braks: Required new right rear brake repairs $400.00 approx. Was told by dealership"due to my driving habits", I had to pay for repairs eventhough it was during warranty period. (I had just given up a 2000zx nissan purchased brand new in 1985--an automatic). Second brake job...$800.00 plus. Currently needs shocks and struts. Left window control lever has broken. Just installed new battery. Nearly blew out enjine twice because beetle loosesengine oil...from I dont know whe
